This paper will discuss the relationship between Will Hunting and the psychologist Sean Mcguire in the movie Good Will Hunting. The struggles that occur between these main characters will be analyzed and their meanings found. It is then that Will solves the complicated math equation. He is sent to jail but the professor, who must have had some pull in Boston was able to get Will out of jail if he works on math proofs and see a psychologist. Hunting agrees, but has a hard time with dealing with a psychologist, scaring five away, two are shown. He then meets Lambeaus old college roommate, Sean Maguire (Robin Williams). It is Maguire that turns Will around because he is not afraid to talk back to him. The movie really relates the main idea of the story and that is what psychologists call intimacy. The two characters of Will and Sean are the central focus of the movie. Skylark, Chuckie and his friends help in the bigger scope but the relationship between the psychologist Sean and Will is what really counts in this tale. The main focus is placed on Will, whom has a rare genius to put together abstract math problems and finds it hard to relate to world without getting arrested for doing something violent and rebellious. He grew up in South Boston and the hard streets have jaded him, while his intelligence further isolated him from people and made him hostile to other people. In the beginning of the film, Will is discovered by Lambeu (Stellan Skarsgard) a professor of mathematics, and his well-being becomes a serious issue and he is pursued. It is the tragic tale of two star crossed lovers; Romeo of the house of Montague and Juliet of the house of Capulet. Maria is a Puerto Rican new to America, her family works hard to support themselves but they still live in dirty apartments on the wrong side of town. West Side Story is set in Manhattan during the 1950’s when racial stereotypes and discrimination were still dominant, therefore all of the Puerto Rican community was looked down upon including Maria. Although Maria and Juliet seem very similar generally speaking they differ in their philosophical/ethical views. Maria is more idealistic and careless than Juliet is because Maria defies her brother’s attempted betrothal to Chino and dreams of the life her and Tony could have together. Whereas Juliet is obedient and willing to live her life with Paras according to her parents, until she meets Romeo and he introduces her to love and the possibility of a new life. The character’s relationships between both plays are drastically different. In order to adapt the story for modern times (i. e. 1950’s) many changes were made to West Side Story. One of the most pivotal relationships in Romeo and Juliet was between Juliet and her nurse. However, un like Juliet’s nurse who successfully delivers the message to Romeo for him to meet Juliet, Anita is accosted by the jets and instead ells them all that Maria was shot, betraying that close/motherly bond. One of the most noticeable differences is in relationships has to do with the parents. In Romeo and Juliet, Juliet’s parents are so involved in her life by arranging her marriage, counselling her on how to woo Paras and as most parents claiming that they know what is best for her. Yet in West Side Story the parents of all chi ldren are never seen and barely mentioned, leaving Maria to make her own decisions and appeal to her brother Bernardo and Anita instead. Bernardo not only plays head of the â€Å"sharks† gang, but also the over protective big brother who will stop at nothing to protect his sister who symbolizes their culture and tradition in a sense. So when he discovers Tony and Maria dancing he is instantly enraged and bent on revenge. In Romeo and Juliet, it is Juliet’s cousin Tybalt who is revenge driven and set on killing Romeo, but Tybalt’s fury is risen from pride and resentment instead of a protective feeling. Shakespeare’s classic love tale of Romeo and Juliet has been lamented for its tragic elements. The fact that fate could be doomed and the idea that Romeo and Juliet’s true love could only exist once both had died for their love. When you look at both plays the order of songs and scenes are substantially related, with the exception of a song or two added in West Side Story to help feed the theme of prejudice and promise of a better life in America. Overall none of the songs alter the narrative of story for my character. All songs that are performed are directly linked to key points of the classic story line which it was based off. However in West Side Story, there is one crucial scene that is the exact opposite of what happens in Romeo and Juliet but it was not catalysed by any songs, the story itself was just written that way. In the iconic death scene in Romeo and Juliet; Romeo, believing that Juliet is dead goes into her family tomb to die with her. There he meets Paras and the two quarrel and it ends with Romeo killing Paras. When Romeo happens upon Juliet he is so stricken with grief that he says his final farewell and drinks poison to end his life and reunite him with his Juliet. Suddenly, Juliet awakes yearning for her Romeo only to find him dead. Juliet is so distraught at the sight of this that can think of only one solution; the only way they can be together is by both dying for each other. Juliet that there is still some poison on Romeo’s lips so she kisses him to find that there is not enough to kill her fast enough. Therefore she takes matters into her own hands, by taking up Romeo’s dagger and running herself through with it. In the end when both families have realized their lost, they end their feud. In the case of Tony and Maria; Tony is lead to believe that Maria has been killed by her intended husband Chino. Ironically, instead of Tony happening upon and killing Chino, Tony is fueled by despair and runs through the streets begging for Chino to kill him. Stereotypes Stereotypes are the organizational factors that virtually shape the way we think in 20th century America. They somehow manage to categorize some of life's most complex matters into nice distinct sections. Classifications and organization, at first glance seem to be useful in distinguishing various aspects of modern life. However, these grouping methods can be very inaccurate, leaving erroneous ideas in the minds of citizens on a global level. Stereotypes, though originating as convenient sorting mechanisms, instead, influence our thinking process. By instituting broad categories, establishing virtually immovable terms, and, often, being mistakenly identified as facts, stereotypes affect the mental process of humans. Originally used as an organizational tool, stereotypes were simply broad generalizations about subject matters. These ideas weren't necessarily meant to cause the feelings of anger that they do today, but to classify ideas. However, possibly the most apparent problem with stereotypes is that the sort very intricate subject matter into large, broad categories. For example, human beings are too complex to use generalizations like, ?all blondes are dumb? or ?all smart people are nerds.? Stereotypes use wide terms, to simplify subject matter, but this attempt often ends in an inaccurate result. Despite their wide generalizations, stereotypes establish virtually immovable terms. For example, Third World countries were hastily grouped together not because of social or economic similarities, but out of convenience. Since that time, the industrialized nations have harbored this stereotype that the third world is land of starving children and savage tribes. Despite decades of vast improvement, this stereotype remains unchanged. This rigid stereotype has caused many citizens to embrace a false view of the Third World nations and its citizens. Stereotypes, clearly, should not be mistaken for factual information. Although there may be a certain amount of truth to the statement, the generalization is often inaccurate. Unfortunately, many people believe this information to be not only truthful, but factual. Since most Americans have not visited a Third World country, they believe many misconceptions to be true. In reality, these stereotypes are often wrong. They may apply in some instances, but they should not be considered factual. Through establishing broad categories, creating immovable terms, and being mistakenly identified as facts, stereotypes often place inaccurate ideas in the people's minds. Expressing a Specific Quantity In French This is the second part of my lesson on French quantities. First, read about  du, de la and des, how to express  unspecific quantities in French,  so you follow the logical progression of this lesson. So now, lets take a look at specific quantities. 1 - Un, Une = One and the Numbers This one is quite easy. When you are talking about a whole item, use: un ( masculine word) to say one. Ex: Jai un fils (I have one son).une ( feminine word) to say one. Ex: jai une fille ( I have one daughter).a cardinal number, like deux, or 33678  Ex: jai deux filles (I have two daughters). Note that un and une are also indefinite articles in French, meaning a/ an in English.   2 - More Specific Quantities = Expressions of Quantity Are Followed by De or D ! This is the part that usually confuses students. I hear these  mistakes several times a day during my Skype lessons. Its definitely one of the most common French mistakes. Expressions of quantity are followed by de (or d), never du, de la, de l, or des. In English, you say I would like a little bit OF cake, not a little bit SOME cake dont you? Well, its exactly the same thing in French. So, in French, after an expression of quantity, we use â€Å"de† or â€Å"d† ( word starting with a vowel). Ex: Un verre de vin (a glass OF wine, NOT DU, you do not say â€Å"a glass some wine†)Ex: Une bouteille de champagne (a bottle of champagne)Ex: Une carafe d’eau (a pitcher of water – de becomes d’ vowel)Ex: Un litre de jus de pomme (a liter of apple juice)Ex: Une assiette de charcuterie (a plate of cold cuts)Ex: Un kilo de pommes de terre (a kilo of potatoes)Ex: Une botte de carottes (a bunch of carrots)Ex: Une barquette de fraises (a box of strawberries)Ex: Une part de tarte (a slice of pie). And do not forget all the adverbs of quantity, that also specify quantities : Ex: Un peu de fromage (a bit of cheese)Ex: Beaucoup de lait (a lot of milk).Ex: Quelques morceaux de lards (a few pieces of bacon). Note that in spoken French, this â€Å"de† is very much glided, so almost silent. OK, now that I made this very clear, I am going to confuse you even more†¦ bear  with me. You could say je voudrais un morceau du gà ¢teau au chocolat. Why? Because in these cases, you are running into another French grammar rule: the du here is not a partitive article, meaning some, but a contraction of the definite article with de, de le du.   It makes sense when you stay focusses on the context: Je voudrais du gà ¢teau some cake, I dont care how much.Je voudrais un morceau de gà ¢teau a piece of cake.Je voudrais un morceau du gà ¢teau au chocolat a piece of the chocolate cake, this specific one Im looking at right now, not the strawberry cake next to it, but that chocolate cake (Imagine Cookie Monster, it will help)†¦ BTW, you say un gà ¢teau AU chocolat because its made with chocolate and other ingredients, not just chocolate. The chocolate is a flavor, but there is also flour, sugar, butter. Youd say un pà ¢tà © de canard because its a way to prepare the duck. Remove the duck and youre left with only spices. But I digress...So now, for the last part of this lesson, lets see what happens when the quantity is zero, and with adjectives of quantities.
